The Hills Market Downtown to Open Spring 2012

The Hills Market will open Hills Market Downtown in the spring of 2012. The 12,000-square foot store will be a full-service grocery and is a key element in the advancement of Neighborhood Launch, which began in 2007.

The market will reside in a building currently owned in partnership between Randy Walker of Randy Walker Real Estate Services and the Edwards Companies. Randy Walker said, "We see this as an opportunity to spur redevelopment of Grant Avenue, which is an important link between the Discovery District and Neighborhood Launch, and to continue to encourage a neighborhood to emerge in downtown."

"We're thrilled to be a part of the great work that Edwards Companies and Randy Walker are doing to change the face of downtown, and we're excited to meet our new neighbors. As one of the finest grocers in the midwest, we plan on bringing our commitment to food, Ohio and our community to the residents of Neighborhood Launch and beyond," said Kyle Baker, co-owner of The Hills Market and managing partner for The Hills Market Downtown.

The Hills Market Downtown will feature local and organic produce, a wide variety of wine and beer, specialty cheeses from around Ohio and around the world, a full-service delicatessen featuring Boar's Head Brand meats and cheeses, a Chef's Case, featuring 24 feet of prepared foods, including hot ready-to-go main courses and side dishes, all made in house by the store's Professional Foodies. The store will also have a wide selection of seafood and a butcher shop emphasizing locally-produced all-natural meats and more than 426 linear feet of grocery, pantry and household items. The store's full-service bakery and coffee shop will be available to customers, and dining areas and bars are planned for both inside and outside the store. The Hills Market Downtown will also offer catering from Hills Own Catering Shoppe and grocery delivery from hillsonthego.com.

The Hills Market Downtown plans to bring their commitment to local foods downtown, continuing relationships with the same producers that service their northern Columbus store. Cooking classes, wine tastings, and special events such as their famous Salmon Roast and Ohio Hog Roasts will exist at The Hills Market Downtown, all with an urban twist.

Neighborhood Launch is a vibrant new downtown neighborhood, featuring parks, water fountains, decorative wrought iron fencing and tree-lined boulevards. Designed to be a pedestrian-friendly streetscape, the residential buildings are two or three stories in height with distinctive facades. When completed there will be nearly 300 units. Neighborhood Launch encompasses nine city blocks that include Gay, Fourth, Long and Grant streets, and is adjacent to Creative Campus that interconnects the Columbus College of Art & Design, Columbus State University and the Columbus Museum of Art.

A Few Questions About our Online Store.

After being in business for close to 20 years, we're expanding. You've have asked us — for years — to open new locations throughout Central Ohio. We've received requests from folks in New Albany, Dublin, German Village, Upper Arlington, Bexley, Westerville and half a dozen other neighborhoods. While it’s technically difficult for us to open brick and mortar locations in these areas (let alone all of them), we are now serving you through our new online store, Hills On The Go.

The amazing Amanda Anderson, Professional Foodie and Manager of Hills On The Go answers a few of the most frequently asked questions below.

Q: Where do you deliver?

A: We deliver to more than 40 zip codes in both Franklin and Delaware Counties.

Q: Is there a minimum order?

A: Nope! You can order as little or as much as you'd like. If you get a craving for some Jeni's Salty Caramel or just a bottle of wine or two, we'll shop it and deliver it for you. No problem.

Q: So there's that produce thing. I like to pick it out myself...

A: Of course you do. So do I. I am incredibly picky about what produce I select for myself. When I'm shopping for your groceries, I'll use that discernment in selecting the best product we have to offer. But to make it even easier for you to trust me, there's a field that allows you to tell us exactly how you want your produce. Ninety percent of the people who order bananas, for instance, let me know how ripe they'd like those bananas to be. (I prefer mine underripe.)

Q: Do you deliver frozen foods?

A: Yes! We deliver many different types of frozen items, from Graeter's Ice Creams to Amy's Rice Macaroni and Cheese. Of course, it is best if you're home when we delivery your groceries — we give you plenty of advance notice when we're coming — but if you can't be home, you can always enter a secondary address for us to drop your order.

Q: I don't see something on hillsonthego.com that I know you carry in your store. Can I still order those items?

A: Because we've just started this process, we need to find out what our customers want to be on our online store. We've started with our best-selling or favorite items, but we need to know what you want. Feel free to e-mail me or call me (614.846.3220) with your requests, and I can add them to the site for you, if we have it in stock. You can also click here to suggest products.

Q: I know you carry several products from local bakers, but I don't see them on the site. Where are they?

A: While we love our local vendors, many of their products have limited availability, and we cannot guarantee that they'll always be in our store. We don't want to disappoint you by not having something you've ordered be in stock. Instead, if you have a specific request, you can write it in the comments section of the order. If we have it in stock, we'll add it to you order.

Q: Am I able to use hillsonthego.com to order groceries for pick up? Is there an additional fee for that?

A: Yes! And no! You can definitely order groceries for pick up at hillsonthego.com. For no extra fee, we can load your groceries into the car for you. The order process will allow you to choose pick up as an option. Just call us when you're out front and we'll bring it right out for you. (This service has helped many busy mothers!)

If we still haven't answered your questions, feel free to call Amanda at 614.846.3220 or shoot her an e-mail at onthego@thehillsmarket.com.
